Prof. Jun Okuda | RWTH Aachen | Organometallic Chemistry

Research topics and profile (related to bioeconomy)

Research at the Chair in the area of organometallic chemistry is directed at design, synthesis and characterization of molecular catalysts for the transformation of biogeneous feedstock molecules as well as carbon dioxide. Research focus include:

1) molecular biomimetic catalysts on the basis of metals such sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, molybdenum, nickel and zinc as substitutes for expensive and toxic platinum metals;
2) selectiv polymerization catalysts for the production of biodegradable und biocompatible polyester and polyamides;
3) biohybrid catalysts on the basis of organometallic catalysts anchored in protein matrices;
4) synthetic hydrogenase and nitrogenase models.

Contributions to BioSC

The Chair of Organometallic Chemistry has long‐standing expertise in development, synthesis and characterization of molecular catalysts for the transformation of biogenous feedstock molecules as well as for the selective polymerization of biomass‐derived monomers such as lactide.
