The structure, dynamics and function of ABC transporters are the research focus of the Institute of Biochemistry. Here we apply different biochemical, biophysical and structural approaches that include protein expression and purification, analysis of protein-ligand and protein-protein interactions and structure determination by X-ray crystallography. In collaboration with other research groups, we aim to determine the dynamics of these membrane transporters by for example NMR or florescence spectroscopy.
The Institute of Biochemistry provides a platform for protein expression and X-ray analysis of biomolecules and includes state-of-the-art HTS-equipment. These technologies will be used to determine the three-dimensional architecture of those biomolecules that are in the research focus of the BioSC. These results will provide important insights into the function and molecular mechanisms of these proteins.
