- The overarching goal is the development of bio- and chemocatalytical as well as combined processes for the synthesis of basic and fine chemicals (e.g. amino acids, organic acids, amines, fuels), pharmacological products (e.g. vitamines, carotenoides) and proteins from renewable raw materials.
- The use of microorganisms, isolated enzymes and chemical catalysts for material transformation.
- Further development of key technologies and methods for in vivo-analytics, the design of biocatalysts (evolutive and rational), high throughput screening and systemic understanding of microorganisms to realize more efficient integrative production processes.
- Development of a synthetic biology enabling the design of new, partially artificial biochemical pathways, consequently opening biological access to new products for the bioeconomy.
