Research topics and profile (related to bioeconomy)
ZEA-3 Analytics develops analytical procedures for application to the scientific challenges addressed at Forschungszentrum Jülich. ZEA-3´s areas of competence include the characterization of organic molecule structures, proteins and molecule-element interactions, element and ion analytics, diffusion processes in solid and liquid phases as well as chemical imaging.
ZEA-3 contributes to several projects in the context of bioeconomy research:
- Characterization of phospho-organic compounds in plants, soil and microbiota, for example using diffusion-NMR
- Characterization of biopolymeric plant cell wall compounds by NMR
- Quantification and characterization of macronutrient exchange processes (C/N/P/S) in plant leaves, roots and soil in dependence of environmental factors using element-und ion analytics
- Quantification and structural characterization of metabolites and signaling compounds in plants and bacteria, characterization of proteins and pyrolyzable hydrocarbons in various complex matrices.
- Characterization of plant stress signaling and stress acclimation mechanisms using mass spectrometry-based proteome analysis.
Contributions to BioSC
ZEA-3 provides its expertise in a range of specialized analytical techniques to research at BioSC and thereby contributes to the BioSC focus topic “Sustainable plant production and resource stewardship”.
