We investigate plant-pathogen interactions (with a focus on fungal pathogens) at the molecular and cellular level with the aim to obtain a better understanding of plant resistance and fungal pathogenicity mechanisms to develop new plant protection approaches on the basis of this knoledge. Since plant diseases condition in part substantial yield losses, any improvement of plant protection based on genetic resources represents a major and suatainable contribution towards an increase in plant biomass for different purposes.
The phytopathological research topics of our research group are closely linked to the goals of the research focus “Sustainable plant production and protection of resources”. In particular the following contributions are associated with the goals of the BioSC:
- Functional characterization of novel components of pathogen resistance
- Establishment of genetic resources for sustainable plant protection
- Genomic analysis of phytopathogens
