FocusLabs

As future focus of the NRW Strategy Project BioSC, three Focus Topic Areas and a Competence Platform were identifitied in the frame of the internal BioSC focussing process.

The three Focus Topic Areas are:

  • Smart management for plant performance
  • Integrated biorefineries for sustainable production and processing
  • Modular biotransformations for high-value chemicals

In addition, the Competence Platform "Economy, strategies and concepts" was conceptually designed.

A FocusLab is a cooperation project with a common topic which is being worked on in a multidisciplinary and integrated way. To achieve this, an adequate integrated structure and governance must be set up. In particular, junior teams with a future potential for an integrated bioeconomy should be established by the FocusLabs- projects.

Project duration is usually 36 month with a maximum funding of €800,000/year.

Within the first call in 2016 three FocusLabs were fundet. FocusLab AP3 started on Apri 1st ,  the FocusLabs Bio2 und CombiCom started on May 1st.
