1st BioSC Symposium

Towards an Integrated Bioeconomy

On 21st November 2016, the first symposium organised by the Bioeconomy Science Centre (BioSC) took place in the Maternushaus in Cologne on the subject "Towards an integrated Bioeconomy". Around 200 scientists from different research areas discussed perspectives and aims for the development of an integrated and sustainable bioeconomy from various points of view.

International external experts and BioSC-scientists presented the latest results of their interdisciplinary research projects in three theme sessions.

In the beginning of the symposium, Prof. Regina Birner (University of Hohenheim, member of the Bioökonomierat) explained in her keynote lecture why an integrated bioeconomy is needed. During the final panel discussion, the auditorium had the opportunity to discuss these and other questions regarding the implementation of an integrated bioeconomy with international experts.

A very important part of the symposium was the recognition of the contributions of the BioSC towards ressource efficiency and climate protection as well as to education of transdisciplinary qualified experts. An award of KlimaExpo.NRW was handed over by Dr. Dornbuch, managing director.
