Reseachers from the groups of Prof. Michael Bott and Dr. Jan Marienhagen, FZ Jülich, have developed a new bacterial strain of Corynebacterium glutamicum which can produce interesting chemical substances. e.g. the antioxidant Reseratrol by using sugar.

Food Security in the context of bioeconomy
Dr. Nicole Schönleber (CEO Food Security Center, University of Hohenheim) will give a BioSC Lecture on 1st of June (4 p.m.) at the Forschungszentrum Jülich. The seminar will provide an overview of the research and educational objectives of the Food Security Center in the context of (global) strategies on bioeconomy. Food Security is one of the major objectives of bioeconomy.
moreThe new MiBioLab (Microbial Process Lab) will be set up at IBG-1 with Prof. Marco Oldiges, who is a member of BioSC. Aim of MiBioLab is to provide innovative technologies for the development of production processes for microorganisms. The project volume is expected to be almost € 4 million.

The Summer School From plant to product - Value chains in a sustainable bioeconomy will take place 24. - 28. October 2016 and is organized in collaboration with the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and the National University of Costa Rica (UNA). Registration is open!
moreOn 7 April, the Ministry of Science and Innovation hosted the symposium „Innovation Pathways for Bioeconomic Solutions“ at the Representation of the State NRW in Brussels. Minister Svenja Schulze welcomed the guests, as well as Dr. Rudolf Strohmeier, Deputy Director General Research Programmes, DG Research and Innovation of the European Commission. Prof. Ulrich Schwaneberg gave an introduction to the BioSC. The participants showed particular interest in the BioSC concept for an integrated bioeconomy and the research approaches being presented.
