On 28. September 2017 the next BioSC Lecture is taking place on the occasion of the 40 years’ jubilee of biotechnology at Forschungszentrum Juelich at the this year’s Jülich Biotech Day 2017. Prof. Sang Yup Lee from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Republic of Korea, will present current developments and trends in “Systems metabolic engineering for the bio-based production of chemicals”. Prof. Francis H. Arnold from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), USA, will give a recent insight into “Innovation by evolution: Bringing new chemistry to life”.

The agenda for the 2nd BioSC Symposium „Towards an Integrated Bioeconomy“ on 28th November 2017 is online. There will be posters and oral presentations under the main topics “Socioeconomic Perspectives within a Sustainable Bioeconomy”, “Innovations for Plant Production and Resource Management” and “Green Value Chains ‐ Processes and Products from Biomass”. Besides several talks there was as well a guided tour to see the field experiments. The participants jointly agreed that cup plant has still a high potential.

Process Design for Integrated Biorefinery Concepts

On the 1st of September, 2017 a BioSC Spotlight about the low-input plant Silphie takes place at Campus Klein-Altendorf in Bonn. BioSC scientists and external experts will present their latest results and discuss current developments regarding cultivation and utilisation of Silphie. The event will be in German.
