Hannah Schneider (IBG-2, FZ Jülich) hat den Vorentscheid zur Falling Walls Conference, die im November in Berlin stattfindet, gewonnen. Sie überzeugte die Jury durch ihren Ansatz, Pflanzen produktiver zu machen, indem sie Wurzeleigenschaften optimiert und anpasst. Durch eine verbesserte Nährstoffaufnahme könnte der Ertrag gesteigert werden - ein wichtiger Beitrag, um den Welthunger zu bekämpfen.

Jülicher Forschern der AG Marienhagen/AG Bott ist es gelungen, den Bakterienstamm Corynebacterium glutamicum so umzuprogrammieren, dass er aus Zucker chemische Substanzen mit potentieller pharmakologischer Wirkung herstellt, z.B. das Antioxidationsmittel Resveratrol.

Food Security in the context of bioeconomy

Dr. Nicole Schönleber (CEO Food Security Center, University of Hohenheim) will give a BioSC Lecture on 1st of June (4 p.m.) at the Forschungszentrum Jülich. The seminar will provide an overview of the research and educational objectives of the Food Security Center in the context of (global) strategies on bioeconomy. Food Security is one of the major objectives of bioeconomy.

Microbial Process Lab (MiBioLab) ist ein neues Innovation Lab am IBG-1 unter der Leitung von Prof. Marco Oldiges. MiBioLab verfolgt das Ziel, neue Technologien für die Industrialisierung von Produktionsprozessen in der Biotechnologie zu entwickeln. Die Gesamtprojektsumme wird voraussichtlich knapp vier Millionen Euro betragen.
