On July 7, 2024, the BioSC enjoyed a large number of visitors at the Bonn Science Festival on the Hofgartenwiese in Bonn. The BioSC Core Groups of Prof. Hartmann and Prof. Grundler of the University of Bonn provided insights into current BioSC projects. A variety of hands-on and participatory activities for the whole family made bioeconomy and science tangible.
New bioeconomic approaches for plant protection were presented, e.g. through the use of biosurfactants, and innovative bioeconomy products made from renewable raw materials were shown. Last but not least, visitors were asked their opinions as consumers in surveys on the cultivation of lupins as a new type of protein source, e.g. for the food sector, and on the use of lignin, a component of wood, for the production of textiles. Even the youngest visitors were involved by selecting the “most beautiful” sand toys made from renewable raw materials or conventional materials. All participants enjoyed an informative day in perfect weather.
